Information only, not advice

Everything on JinglePig, including spot prices, price history, melt values, coin specifications, identification tips, key dates, guides, the Show Board and calculator results, is general information. It is not financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any coin or metal. JinglePig does not buy or sell coins or metals, and nothing here is an offer, quote or price at which anyone will trade with you. Do your own research and, for decisions that matter to you, talk to a qualified professional.

Spot prices and price history

  • Spot prices come from third-party market data providers (currently Gold-API.com, and Metals.Dev for zinc and nickel). JinglePig checks for new gold, silver, platinum, palladium and copper prices every few minutes, and for zinc and nickel prices a few times a day; the note under each set of prices says how often and when we last checked. A check can run late, for example when our server’s scheduled job is delayed. Each price shows its quote time, which is when that price last changed at the source; between changes, and when markets are closed, the same price is shown.
  • Prices can be delayed, interrupted, rounded or simply wrong, and the providers themselves give no guarantee of accuracy. We mark prices that look out of date, but we cannot promise that any price is current, complete or correct.
  • Spot is a wholesale benchmark for large, refined bars. It is not the price of any coin, small bar or piece of jewelry, which trade at their own prices above or below spot.
  • Price history before October 23, 2026 shows one daily average per day from Gold-API.com. From that date on, it shows prices recorded by JinglePig.
  • Always confirm a current price with your dealer, refiner or another live source before you buy, sell or set a price.

Melt values are estimates

A melt value is the pure metal in a coin’s standard minted weight multiplied by a spot price. Real coins differ: worn, cleaned, damaged, bent and holed coins weigh less, and counterfeits contain little or none of the metal. Melt value is not what a dealer, refiner or buyer will pay, which is usually less, and it is not a coin’s collector value, which can be much more. Melt values, calculator results and scrap estimates are not appraisals.

Coin information and identification

We check coin specifications, mintages and dates against the US Mint and other published sources, but errors and omissions are possible, and sources sometimes disagree. “Is My Coin Silver?”, key dates, sorting sheets and identification tips are guides, not authentication. Many coins, especially gold coins, silver dollars and trade dollars, are widely counterfeited. Before buying or selling anything of value, have it checked by a reputable dealer or a professional grading service. If you spot a mistake, please use the report box at the bottom of any page.

Laws, taxes and regulations

You are responsible for following the laws that apply to you. In particular:

  • In the United States, melting, treating or exporting one-cent and five-cent coins is prohibited by federal regulation (31 CFR Part 82), with narrow exceptions and licenses issued by the US Mint. As of October 2026 that rule remains in force. Melt values for these coins are shown for information only and are not a suggestion to melt them.
  • Damaging or altering coins can be illegal in some circumstances and countries.
  • Buying, selling, importing and exporting coins and precious metals can be subject to sales tax, capital gains or income tax, reporting requirements, dealer licensing and secondhand-dealer or precious-metal laws. These differ by country, state and city and change over time.

Our guides describe general rules for information only and may be out of date. Check current law, or ask a qualified professional, for your own situation.

Dealers and the Show Board

The Show Board and the percent-of-melt fields are display aids. If you show JinglePig prices or values to your customers, you are responsible for the prices you offer and charge, for checking that the figures are current, and for complying with the laws that apply to your business. A heading you add to the Show Board appears only on your own screen; it does not mean JinglePig endorses your business, or that you speak for JinglePig.

Third-party data, names and images

Prices and some data come from third parties under their own terms. Coin names, designs and trademarks belong to their owners. Mentioning the US Mint, the Royal Mint, the Royal Canadian Mint or any other mint, dealer or grading service does not mean they endorse JinglePig. Coin photos are credited on each coin page with their license; coin designs remain the property of their issuers. Links to other websites are provided for convenience, and we are not responsible for their content.
