US Coin Melt Values by Roll

Silver melt value by the roll

Standard rolls hold 50 dimes, 40 quarters, 20 half dollars or 20 dollars (40 for war nickels). Dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollars dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver, Kennedy halves dated 1965–1970 are 40% silver, and 1942–1945 war nickels are 35% silver. Use “Calculate rolls” to value more than one roll.

Melt value is the metal content at spot price, not a buy or sell price. Collectible coins can be worth much more. For reference only.

What melt ÷ face means

Melt ÷ face is the roll’s melt value divided by its face value: how many times face value the silver is worth. At 20×, a $10 roll of quarters holds $200 of silver. The multiple is the same for one coin, a roll or a bag of the same coin, and it moves with the silver price. Circulated 90% silver is often priced this way, as a multiple of face value.

More roll and melt values

Clad coins from 1965 on, pennies and copper-nickel nickels contain no precious metal, so they are not listed. For one coin of each type, including gold, see US Coin Melt Values. Roll counts, face values and bank box sizes are on the Coin Roll Reference, and Silver Eagles and other bullion by the tube are on Silver Coin Melt Values. To add up a mix of rolls and loose coins, use the coin melt calculator.
